Brake Controllers & Wiring Adapters

Timed Controls: Time-Based Controls apply braking power at a fixed rate that is NOT proportional to your applied brake pressure.

Proportional Controls: Proportional based controls offer a smooth braking response to almost any stop. Through the use of a sensing device, the brake contol determines the tow vehicle's rate of deceleration and then applies the trailer's brakes to match.

What are Brake Controllers?

Brake controls help maximize stopping power and trailer brake action. Brake controls are required in all 50 states, although all 50 states don't have the same requirements.

Timed Activated Brake Controls

Time based brake controls are the most economical. They usually don't offer as smooth a stop as other brake controls. You may have to adjust them for city or highway driving. Plus, there is somewhat increased trailer brake wear.

Inertia Brake Controls

Inertia brake controls are also economical. They do provide a smoother stop than timed brake controls. They also have more setup adjustments available. Inertia brake controls do require specific mounting locations.

Proportional Brake Controls

Proportional brake controls offer smoother stops than other brake controls. They also create less trailer brake wear and do not need constant adjusting.

Brake Control Wiring

Brake controller wiring is vehicle specific. Use our Brake Controller Wiring Guide to find the correct brake control wiring for your vehicle.
